This review pertains to the Blu-Ray release. You may as well save money and get the DVD version.

But do not buy it expecting gorgeous picture perfect video. If you are a fan of Sailor Moon this set is a no brainer. Thank God Naru no longer talks in a fake New York accent, and Luna no longer sounds like a British nanny. We will finally have consistency in this regard throughout the whole series, which is a major plus. Reception to this track has been mixed, but overall, even if a few of the voice actors sound a little too similar, my opinion of this is positive. In addition to the Japanese audio, you also get a new English dub track.

As is, I cannot recommend the series on picture quality alone this transfer is NOT Blu-ray worthy. For an example of anime done right on Blu-ray, look at the cancelled Dragon Ball Z Level sets, or Viz's own Ranma Blu-rays. Rather than a faithful master, the video here has been slathered with digital noise reduction and artificial sharpening. It comes in a collectors box that will house the second half of the season when it is released on Blu-ray later on the booklet included is very attractive and includes summaries for the later episodes as well, which will be in the second set. This set constitutes the first half of the first season - 23 episodes total. We've have to endure edited DVDs, DVDs missing episodes, and poor video transfers.įinally, Viz Media, who worked wonders with their Ranma 1/2 DVDs in recent years, got the rights to the series and has stated they will be releasing the COMPLETE series, including the fifth series, Sailor Stars, not previously released in America. Sadly, its North American video release history has been very spotty.

The series mixture of action, romance, drama, and humor has helped it to stand the test of time. Sailor Moon is one of the best anime series of all times.
